About Kea

Kea is the closest to Athens Cycladic island and with a perimeter of 32 nautical miles is our perfect sea kayaking weekend / extended trip.

Like most Cycladic islands, Kea is exposed from all sides and suitable only for trained, experienced and well equipped sea kayakers

Northern winds are dominant for the bigger part of the year and only in the colder months will turn occasionally southerly.

Underwater currents make waves bulge higher off the west coast and the wind / wave prone north coast has no safe exit for 5 n.m.

The island's coastline is rugged with over 100 sloping headlands and even more narrow and mid sized beaches hiding between them

The signs of the cataclysmic events that shaped Kea to it's present form are evident in the impressive rock formations all around the island.

Sea kayaking around Kea is an experience that words simply cannot do justice, you have to live it to believe it.

Apart from sea kayaking

The island's recorded history spans over 5 millennia and is rich in culture and nature.

I note only Simonides from Kea (Keos), the famous poet who wrote the epigram for the deceased warriors of the battle of Thermopylae and the ancient temples of Apollo and Athena at Karthea bay.
